JOB TITLE: Team Leader (Pastor)

RELATES TO: Life Church Eldership

REPORTS TO: Life Church Ltd Board

POSITION SUMMARY

Life Church is an inner-city church with a large reach into the community. The position is to be the Team Leader of Life Church. Leading the church, pastoring its people and the community it serves (Newcastle’s Inner City), ensuring their health and growth. Life Church is part of Pioneer Network Australia.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Church Culture

Responsible for the overall culture and direction of the church, ‘Hearts toward heaven, Hands toward humanity.”

Discipleship

Responsible for providing discipleship pathways for all those who connect to Life church.

  • new Christians

  • visitors

  • existing members

Pathways towards personal growth in their Christian walk. Pathways that connect them to Life Church and to the community the church serves.

Leadership

Responsible for training leaders and building teams that ensure the health and growth of the church. Including,

  • Creative, Production and host teams for Sunday Services

  • Connect and other ministry group leaders.

  • Discipleship and Pastoral Care teams

Pastoral Care

Facilitate pastoral care for both members of the church and the community.

  • Pre-marriage facilitation and marriage services.

  • Relationship support.

  • Trauma / Grief / crisis support.

  • Hospital visitation.

  • Funeral Support.

  • Home visitation.

Mission

Responsible for the inclusion of Life Church Missions into the life and culture of the church.

Administration and Reporting

  1. Oversee the church database and communications.

  2. Written pastoral care reports to the eldership and board, that include attendance, visitor, and discipleship data.

  3. Responsible for the safety of all those connected to the operations of Life Church. That the church policies and practices are consistent with the safety standards required by government regulators, church members and the community.

  4. Responsible to the Board in the formation of the Life Church budget and the supervision of all financial operations of the church.

Other duties

Fulfil other duties that as required that ensure the health and growth of the church.

GENERAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Character and Personal Qualifications

a.      Live a lifestyle in accordance with biblical standards as befitting the position of a pastor of the church.

b.      Provide spiritual leadership and authority commensurate with the responsibilities and parameters of your position.

c.      To teach Christian discipleship and encourage faithfulness towards the practices of the Christian faith.

d.      Relationship & commitment to Jesus Christ.

e.      Spiritual maturity consisting of a pleasant, forgiving, non-judgmental, but assertive manner.

f.       Initiative.

g.      Confidentiality.

h.      Ability to work under pressure and remain calm.

i.       Ability to meet deadlines (may involve working outside normal hours).

j.       Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of team, members of congregation and public.

Duties

a.      Devote the whole of your time, attention and skill during normal business hours, and at other times as reasonably necessary, to your duties.

b.      Faithfully and diligently perform the duties and exercise the powers consistent with your position.

c.      Comply with all lawful directions given to you by any person duly authorised from time to time.

d.      Promote and enhance the interests, welfare, business, growth and reputation of the Church.

e.      At all times act to a high standard of professional behaviour.

Qualifications

a.      Diploma of Ministry or higher pastoral qualification.

b.      Vulnerable (Child Safe) Training

c.      Working with Children Check

d.      Police Check

Experience

a.      Previous experience as a church pastor.

b.      Previous experience working with the vulnerable.

c.      Demonstrated Kingdom mindset. For example, participating with other churches or organisation in local collaborative prayer or missions’ initiatives.

d.      A musical ability would be desirable.

 Skills & competencies   

a.      Communication: the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, varying communication style depending upon the audience.

b.      Attention to detail: excellent attention to detail and written skills when communicating with others, both internally and externally.

c.      Teamwork: ability to work with, assist, support and develop others.

d.      Time management/organisation: accomplish objectives effectively within time frame given, and carry out administrative duties within portfolio in an efficient and timely manner.
